Artemis Awakens
Ritual herbal remedies inspired by The Goddess of the Hunt (plus a little personal reflection.)
Soon after the darkest night of the year, a light flickered. And something was (re)born.
These Ritual Herbal Oils are the result of a divine little spark that dropped into my consciousness soon after moving back to San Diego.
After a series of serendipitous moments (ie, Divine Breadcrumbs), when I first moved back to San Diego in July, Artemis-themed and inspired herbal creations started pouring into my mind and heart.
I captured the ideas in my Notion, and then began focusing on other things and other projects.
But recently, I was called back to these ideas.
Ideas that had been patiently and peacefully waiting for me to pick them back up.
Not with the intention of “making it my next work project,” but with curiosity. Softness.
With the intention of letting my intuition and the plants guide me. With the intention to open my heart and mind and let the plants speak and create through me.
Because at the end of the day, that’s what I am. A vessel for plant energy to move through.
The plants share their wisdom and message (I either hear it or see visuals), and then I try to communicate that…through flower essence therapy sessions, through the written word, through herbal creations and remedies.
I haven’t done a great job at it, or been very prolific with the messages, not for lack of desire, but I guess for fear of what I would look or sound like if I really stepped into my power and authenticity. If I finally, after years of giving it away, took my power and my voice back. And, to be honest, I’m not fully sure what that looks like.
But here I am.
I want to be a bridge between the plant realm and the 3D reality we live in day-to-day. How can I make their medicine approachable? Tangible? Digestible? How can I bridge that gap?
Plants want to help and support us. They want to communicate with us.
And we ALL can create a connection with them. We don’t need any special “powers” for that.
We just need guidance. A path to reconnect with the plant world.
A nudge to start welcoming in their magic and essence into our day-to-day lives.
It’s a way of living that our ancestors did without even thinking about it. But as modern society has pulled us further away from the green world, that connection and relationship have become disconnected. Severed.
I see a beautiful collective movement slowly building where people are instinctively craving that (re)connection again.
That communication, support and relationship with the natural world. It’s happening, every day, more and more. Sometimes the pendulum has to swing far to one side before we can slowly start to find the middle neutral space again.
Herbalism is “The People’s Medicine,” and we all deserve to learn from and work with plants in this way. Not only is it deeply healing on a soul level, but there’s also something special about knowing how to heal with plants.
And as we enter an age where technology and AI will continue to become more prominent in our daily lives and the collective world we live in, it is *imperative* that we counteract those non-conscious frequencies with the frequency of something living, breathing and deeply real.
The deeper we move into working with soulless, Ego-based energies (AI), the deeper we need to move into connecting with things that contain souls and consciousness…ourselves, other humans, animals, the mineral realm (crystals/stones) and, lest we forget, the plant world.
I was drawn to Sagebrush when I first arrived home in San Diego. I don’t know why, but the plant kept coming to me.
California Sagebrush is native to the area, so on some level, it didn’t surprise me that the energies of local plants were slowly starting to enter my consciousness.
I had felt a deepened connection to the land here when I arrived back home in July and, although I grew up in this area, the connection and reverence I feel for the land around me have now heightened.
When Sagebrush first came to my mind, I did a little research on her. And this is where so many magical dots started to connect.
California Sagebrush is under the plant family, Asteraceae.
The Asteraceae family includes flowers like sunflower, daisy, zinnia, marigold, chamomile, immortelle, calendula…think flowers that are bright, colorful and make you smile.
It made sense to me that I was connected to a plant in the Asteraceae family. I’m drawn to many of those flowers and my Instagram name, before the current one, was “Singing Sunflower.”
But diving a bit deeper, California Sagebrush’s scientific name is “Artemisia californica”.
Also in this “Artemisia” genus is mugwort and wormwood (two of the more well-known plants)
I was really drawn to the name “Artemisia.” I figured it had to do with the goddess Artemis, but the meaning is “gift from Artemis” or “of Artemis.”
That’s when I started feeling really drawn to her. I’ve never really been into goddesses, Egyptian, Greek or otherwise, not because I don’t believe in working with them or their archetypes, but because I was never particularly called to any of them. I was more of a solo kitchen witch ;) And, if anything, I felt more connected to the Celtic lineages and traditions (which, ancestrally, makes sense for me.)
But the more I read and learned about Artemis, the more I felt connected to her and the more I felt like she had dropped into my life as a guiding light and archetype to work with. I needed her “medicine.” She carried and represented an energy that I wanted to step into and embody.
Artemis is the ancient Greek goddess of the Moon, the Hunt, and Wild Nature.
She is often depicted as a youthful, radiant huntress carrying a bow and arrows, accompanied by a deer or a pack of dogs, moving freely through the forest under moonlight.
Archetypal Themes connected with her:
Sacred feminine sovereignty and independence
Deep love of nature and solitude
A protector of women, animals, and the wild
Living outside societal expectations
Embracing the huntress within: fierce, focused, and free
The healer-visionary who walks between worlds (especially moonlit or liminal spaces)
Embodying cycles and trusting your natural instincts
So, circling back to the beginning of this post: After connecting with the archetype of Artemis, Artemis-themed and inspired herbal creations started pouring through.
And the day after the Winter Solstice, I spent the day in the kitchen…creating, crafting and blending.
Below are the “finished products,” which I will share more about here and on Instagram after the Christmas holiday. I can’t wait to dive into each of these oils and share the layers of plant wisdom and intention woven within them.

I am SO excited they have finally been birthed into the world. And, in retrospect, I realize that the *creation* of this medicine is happening at the right time.
Although the ideas and glimmers came to me months ago, it wasn’t the right time to create.
I needed to reach the edges and depths of the last few months in order to create. Because the medicine that is coming through requires those lived experiences. Required me to reach those limits. Required me to be in a space where this healing medicine would be both for me and for the world.
So, whether this stays a small-batch creative outlet in my kitchen for myself and the local community, or grows into something I have to share with the IRS at some point, I’m proud of what I’ve created.
I listened, leaned in and breathed life into something that I’d smile about - even if it was just me and God who knew about it.
And Artemis.
