The Whispered Language of Plants
How the flowers, trees, and tiny sprouts around us mirror the medicine our souls need the most...all we have to do is listen.
I was talking with my friend (and amazing practitioner) Dr. Sofia yesterday and near the end of our conversation, she mentioned that she had a plant intuitive question for me…
And, of course, I’m like:
She went on to share that her snake plants were FLOWERING. All of them.
And almost all of them had new growth, as well.
Now, here’s the thing: snake plants are not fast-growing plants. In fact, they are notoriously slow-growing and produce only 2-3 new leaves each year.
But what’s even more rare and unique is seeing it flower.

According to THE GOOGLE (because although I’d love to have all this information stored in the folds of my brain, I don’t), snake plants typically flower once per year in the SPRING, and even that is not guaranteed.
There are many reasons why it could be flowering and flowering at this moment, and it’s hard to pinpoint which it might be, but that’s getting a bit technical and botanical for me.
I like to look at the wider, spiritual and energetic picture.
When she said her snake plant was flowering, I immediately thought, “It’s the Year of the Snake. Year 9. Death and rebirth.”
That little flowering stalk (see below) was the “rebirth.” There was an energetic shedding and release and this is the rebirth that is coming from it. The new.
I also love the contrast of the snake plant vs its little flowering stalk. Snake plants have such a masculine, stoic and rigid energy. They’re protective, reserved and a bit closed…But here was this soft, lighter, less-rigid flower coming through. The feminine balance to the masculine structure.
After we got off the phone, I continued my ruminating on plants and plant intuition (as one does 💅🏻).
It led me to look outside at my own little patio garden, where my tiny but mighty band of misfit plants all reside.
And I started to think: What led me to choose each of them? What about their energy attracted me to them, now and in the past?
What element of their essence, spirit or personality drew me toward them?
What medicine did they have (energetically) that I also needed?
For example, my Red Hibiscus. This gorgeous girl is the quintessential bright, bold, sensual, feminine energy. Vibrant, flowing, soft and strong. And seeing her bright, vibrant and sensual feminine energy helps me remember my own.
My bougainvillea…strong, hearty vines that can survive the most intense Mediterranean heat, bursting with the most vibrant, angelic, feminine flowers. There’s a sturdiness and strength to her, while also being delicate and soft. She also bursts with color, and then goes “dormant” for a few weeks and then, right when I’m convinced I killed her, she comes to life again with another, even stronger, shower of flowers.
This reminds me that we don’t have to bloom and blossom all the time. We can have a contraction, an “ebb,” and then come back even stronger and brighter.
My little Rosemary plant. Strength, protection, purification. I always feel spiritually and energetically safe when she’s around.
So, my invitation to you:
Look at what plants (flowers and trees) are catching your eye. What about them draws you in?
Is it a Rose? Is there some self-love and heart healing that needs to be tended to?
Is it a sturdy Oak tree? Are we craving more balance and structure in our lives? A “masculine energy” component?
Is it a Hibiscus or Jasmine? Encouraging more softness, flow, ease and feminine energy?
A Sunflower? Or a plant that grows tall and straight, like Goldenrod? Could we be wanting to strengthen our self-confidence, self-esteem and shine more brightly in the world?
These are just a few examples that come to mind.
But I encourage you to reflect for a moment: Is there a plant that keeps showing up in your life? Or is there a flower that you’ve always been drawn to? Did a certain flower or tree catch your eye on your walk recently?
I’d love to hear in the comments below!
And if a flower keeps entering your world, but you’re having trouble interpreting it, share below and we’ll figure it out together! 🥰
As always, come as you are and leave a little bit lighter.
